Visual Acuity at Various Distances and Defocus Curve: A Good Match

The defocus curve (DC) has become the gold standard method for assessing visual performance at different distances, and hence, to evaluate depth of focus that is provided by modern presbyopia-compensating intraocular lenses are used in cataract surgery. A former study, carried out other authors, reported DC method, based on placing chart far distance using trial negative lenses, underestimated acuity was measured varying test (VD) pseudophakic patients. We have revisited issue with subjects extended study include young phakic observers their natural accommodation preserved. Our results show both VD methods equivalent precision accuracy can be indistinctly. However, more practical clinics because it does not require further control positioning illuminance.
